Warm Fuzzies

October 17, 2011

It’s been a nice couple of days. Reviews for Unacceptable Risk have been pretty positive so far. And sales seem to be picking up (maybe because the Gay Rom Lit gathering in New Orleans is over; my readers have stopped bar hopping and started buying books again.) Then someone recommended my books to Josh Lanyon on the grounds that I sound a little like him. (Now there’s a compliment!)

And I got to make a donation to The Aliveness Project, one of my favorite Minnesota charities. The Aliveness Project provides support services to individuals with HIV and AIDS in the Minneapolis area. They do very worthwhile work and I’m proud to be a supporter.

So I was glad when Amazon came through with a royalties check for And to All a Good Night. Some of you may remember that when I put that free story up on Amazon, the retailer insisted on charging a minimum of $0.99 for it. I decided to donate the author’s share to charity, until the price dropped to free. And now I have the pleasure of passing that along. Not big bucks (at $0.34 per copy, I was pleased to have topped the $100 mark) but it’s nice to feel something I wrote has done some good in the world.

Thanks for reading UR and taking the time to say so. Hopefully about 3 months for the sequel (sorry 😉 ) These are a little different from the Life Lessons books, so I’m really glad you liked it.

Thanks for the reply. I can’t believe you’ll have it done in three months! This had to be an amazing amount of effort to write. It was engaging, in-depth, contained no annoying inconsistencies or grammar errors and kept me enthralled throughout my reading of it. I will really look forward to the sequel. And I think Aaron deserves a love interest too.

It’s already written (and yes, it’s Aaron’s book.) I’m just polishing it before giving it to my editor. (The third one is written too – I didn’t start publishing books until I had written about seven of them. Eventually my husband suggested I might look into getting paid for all the time I was spending on the keyboard. So I submitted one and was thrilled to have it accepted. Which means I still have a backlist.)

I’m really enjoying UR and like the different aspect you brought into the storyline and the werewolf/pack. It’s a little darker (which I like) .

Thats also great about the donation to The Aliveness Project, Congrats to you for that!

I’m glad you’re liking the new book; it is a small change in style which some readers like more than others. And yeah, so sweet to feel like I’ve done something worthwhile out of my concerns about charging for a free read.
